Students looking for more than just a fun excuse to leave their home school for a semester will enjoy studying abroad in Peru. Our programs are ideal for serious students who want to focus on academics and language, yet they're also full of outdoor activities for the adventure enthusiast. ISA offers programs in the modern coastal city of Lima and the quaint mountain city of Cusco, making it a great location for students studying anthropology, political science, ancient history, culture, and civilizations. Are you a fan of the Disney movie "Emperor's New Groove"? When you study in Peru you'll have a chance to see life almost exactly as it's portrayed in the animated film. The indigenous population of the country is still present and you will see the ancient Incan culture around every corner--including traditional foods and llamas! "I studied abroad in Lima in the fall of 2008 and chose Peru because I was really serious about mastering Spanish," said ISA Peru Site Specialist Susannah Halsey. "It was recommended by my study abroad advisor because I was looking for a location that would help me advance academically. I was looking for a different kind of study abroad experience, not just a semester to goof around in a foreign country. I learned a lot about the social and political history of the country and definitely used a lot of my Spanish language skills in class," she said. "It was very eye-opening for me and an extremely affordable semester program." Most students who choose to study in Peru have a high level of Spanish language proficiency because the majority of courses are taught with locals in Spanish. If you're searching for a study abroad location rich in ancient culture and full of outdoor events, Peru is the country for you!
