Only a couple of hours away by ferry from Buenos Aires, Colonia is situated west of Uruguay's capital of Montevideo. You will discover the colonial history of the city by visiting museums of Spain, Portugal, and the indigenous population of Uruguay. A major attraction is the fortress, which was used during colonial times as a port for Portuguese contraband. Colonia's cobble-stoned, tree-lined streets make this a beautiful town for walking tours.
