The European Commission, European Parliament and Council of the European Union are all based in Brussels, surrounding students with the political workings of the European Union. NATO is also a significant presence in Brussels, portraying a different aspect of international affairs. Possible internships are available in some of these areas, an invaluable experience.
On a guided tour through the city center and other neighborhoods, students discover the different personality of each area. From bustling to quaint, there is a zone to suit all tastes.
ISA students have full access to the athletic facilities (including playing on recreational teams) at Vesalius College and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Participating in sports is a great way to meet local and other international students on campus.
Brussels is well-known as a city full of culinary delights, boasting a wide variety of authentic, quality international cuisine. The international influences throughout the city make it possible to enjoy food from just about any world region.
Although Brussels is famous for its international cuisine, typical Belgian food is also unforgettable. Some typical foods you won't want to miss in Brussels include:
- Frites. French fries were invented in Belgium!
- Mussels. Seafood restaurants abound downtown.
- Waffles. No one in the world can replicate the soft, warm, sugary Belgian waffles.
- Waterzooi. A popular Flemish soup that contains chicken or fish and vegetables in a creamy broth.
- Asperge Flambee. Scrambled eggs with cream sauce drizzled over white asparagus.
