This Program offers students international economics and cultural studies courses taught in English as well as courses with locals, in a variety of subjects, taught in Portuguese. Course topics (for courses in English) include studies on ethnicity and society, consumer behavior, global economy, and contemporary cultural studies. In addition, students may select from optional Portuguese language courses at the basic, intermediate and advanced levels. Students who have not completed a semester/quarter of college-level Portuguese or the equivalent, must choose language as one of their courses. Students with an advanced level of Portuguese may also select from a literature course taught in Portuguese.

Students with an advanced level of Portuguese may select from courses with local students in various departments at the UNISUL. Courses with locals are mostly 72 contact hours each and are taught at several campuses across the greater Florianópolis area. Be aware that the commute to some campuses may take up to one hour.

*ALL students are required to obtain a student visa prior to departure.

Eligibility

Minimum GPA

Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50.

Minimum Admissions Prerequisites

Although there is no language pre-requisite for this program, students that have not completed one semester/quarter of college-level Portuguese or the equivalent will be required to enroll in a Portuguese language course.

Students must have completed at least four semesters/six quarters of college-level Portuguese to enroll in courses with locals instructed in Portuguese.
