A private university that was founded in 1964, the Fundação Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina, or UNISUL, has four campuses located in the capital and the southern part of Santa Catarina each comprised of several sub-campuses and has a student body of approximately 30,000 students. The UNISUL takes pride in being a socially responsible and technologically advanced university, and it offers one of the most extensive distance learning programs in Latin America. ISA classes will be held at the Ilha Centro location of the Florianópolis campus, located half a mile apart in the central downtown area of the island. Other class options are available with local students at sub-campuses in the greater Florianópolis area including Padre Roma, Pedra Branca, Norte da Ilha and Ponte do Imaruim.
