Valparaíso and Viña del MarAcademic YearSpanish Language and Chilean Culture - Pontifical Catholic University of ValparaísoThis program is designed for students at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels of Spanish proficiency. Courses include Spanish Language and Culture, Written Spanish, Grammar, elective courses in Spanish with Chilean and international students, and elective courses in English with international students. NOTE: Only students with a high intermediate level of Spanish will be able to take elective courses in Spanish with Chileans and international students. Students take courses at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, mostly with other international students. EligibilityMinimum GPA Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50. Minimum Admissions Prerequisites For beginning, intermediate and advanced level Spanish speakers. All students must take a Spanish language placement exam upon arrival in Valparaíso. The exam will indicate each student's language proficiency level, and will determine the Spanish courses in which the student is eligible to enroll. Students who arrive in Chile having completed 0-1 semesters of college Spanish will likely place into beginning level courses. Students who arrive having completed 2-3 semesters or the equivalent of college-level Spanish will likely place into the intermediate level courses. Students who arrive having completed four semesters or the equivalent of college-level Spanish will likely place into the advanced level courses.
