Intensive Month

Intensive Spanish Language & Chilean Culture

Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso

January 2013 (Early Jan, 2013 to Late Jan, 2013)
Catalog Code: IVPM0113

The Intensive Month program is designed for students who want to focus on language acquisition. The January session offers intermediate and advanced level courses, including Spanish Grammar and Chilean Culture & Conversation, at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaiso.

All students must take a Spanish language placement exam upon arrival in Valparaíso. The exam will indicate each student's language proficiency level, and will determine the Spanish courses in which the student is eligible to enroll.

Students who arrive having completed one full year of college-level Spanish will likely place into intermediate-level courses. Students who arrive in Chile having completed two full years of college-level Spanish will likely place into advanced-level courses.

Intermediate students will be enrolled in Intermediate Spanish Grammar and Intermediate Chilean Culture & Conversation. Advanced students are able to select two of five possible Spanish language or elective courses instructed in Spanish at the advanced level.

Students typically progress through one language level over the course of one intensive month session.

All courses are held at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso and are instructed by host university faculty. Classmates are international students.

Please note that the Intensive Month program price does not include airport pick-up, drop-off, or excursions.

Gap Year students are also eligible for this program. For more information, click here.
