This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of five semesters (or seven quarters) of college-level Spanish. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.

Overview

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
To learn the fundamental theories related with the perception of color, through the study and practice of color usage. At the end of this course the student should be able to know how to combine and evaluate the attributes of color through experimentation

COURSE CONTENT:
1. Define basic concepts of the perception of light and color.
2. Questions and answers over concepts related with color theory.
3. Apply the basic color systems present in the chromatic circle through painting practice.
4. Learn how to utilize painting techniques to resolve color schemes.
5. Refine the presentation quality of works.
6. Increase the capacity of color perception in its qualitative and quantitative dimension and its application to design.
7. Develop creativity in the planning of projects for later application in the interior space workshop.

SPECIFIC TOPICS TO BE COVERED:
1. Definition of color. Perception of light. Questions and answers. Processes of color: light color,pigment color, material color.
2. Light, color, form.
3. Analysis of basic color systems.
4. Characteristics and uses of the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors.
5. Definition of chromatic grays, advantages. Complementary colors.
6. Color attributes. Analysis and applications. How do colors combine?
7. Harmony by contrast and similarity. Simultaneous contrast.
8. Additional effects: light, space and shades of color.
9. Color as an ingredient in architectural design.
