This program is designed for students at all levels of the Spanish language who wish to increase their Spanish proficiency with particular focus on health care and medical terminology. During this 5 week program students will participate in an 80 hour intensive Spanish for Health Professionals course which combines classroom work with hands-on communication experience. Students will also complete a 60 hour elective, called the Costa Rican Health Care System, which explores the the strengths and weaknesses of the country's socialized health care system and examines the specific health concerns of Costa Rica as a tropical country. Language courses are held in the morning, and the elective course is held in the afternoon.

Please note that students who wish to take ONLY the 80 hour Spanish for Health Professionals course should enroll in the ISA Summer 4 program.

This program offers courses at the intermediate and advanced levels. This program is ideal for students who need to complete a full 90 hours of instruction in order to earn six credit hours or nine quarter units at their home university. Students may conveniently select from two sets of dates. Classes are taught at the Universidad Latina, San Pedro with other international students.

Students may select from two sets of dates and will be able to complete one 60 or 80 hour course per summer session. Most courses focus on Spanish language instruction, but there are also several courses designed for more advanced Spanish students. Summer 4 offers Spanish for Health Professionals which is available only to students who are majoring in one of the following areas: pre-med, nursing, pharmacy, microbiology, and other health professions. Classes are at Veritas University with American and other international students.

This program is open to all levels of Spanish speakers. Students will choose one language course and one elective taught either in English or in Spanish. All classes are at Veritas University and are taught by host university faculty. Classmates are other international students.
