Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor, wasn't planning on maiming his leg while hunting in the area in 1370, but he did. Seeing bubbling warm water and thick steam rising from the ground, he thought it might aid his sore body. After a soak, his pain was relieved and soul refreshed, and Charles IV said the water was a blessing from God and so the locals named the city after the King. Though ISA cannot guarantee such a religious healing experience, more than 300 hot springs are still easing sore muscles today. After touring this German/Czech area, come relax in the therapeutic waters and see what all the bubbles are about.
