Overview

This course focuses on European history in the 20th century in general and the history of non-democratic movements, dictatorships, authoritarian and totalitarian policies specifically. In the first part of the course, the emphasis will be placed on historical development of Soviet communism, Italian fascism and German Nazism. Both theory and practice of these political systems will be discussed based on respective political documents. In the second part of the course, concentration will be based on the development of Communist regimes in Central Europe. The final part of the course will deal with different theoretical approaches to so-called “post-totalitarian development”.
