Fall students normally visit Los Haitises National Park, renowned for some of the richest biodiversity in the DR and the Caribbean, including an impressive array of plants and bird species. Winter students have the opportunity to witness the spectacle of humpback whales who come to Samaná each year from December to April for mating season. This excursion also includes stops in Las Terrenas, Cayo Levantado - a small island with beautiful beaches and lush tropical vegetation, and Willmore, a neighborhood where the descendants of English-speaking slaves preserve their ancestors’ culture, religion, and customs.
