STUDENT VISITOR VISAS-
Student Visitor Visas are issued upon arrival in the UK, and allow students to study for a maximum of 6 months. However:
-Students cannot participate in paid employment
-Applying for extensions while studying in the UK will not be possible. If a student is undecided about studying for an entire academic year, he/she should apply for the yearlong Tier 4 Student Visas (requiring students to apply for and be granted the visa prior to entering the UK).
Students will be required to provide the immigration letter from the host university each time they enter the UK. The first time students enter the UK they MUST show proof of a round trip ticket.
You WILL NOT be eligible for the student visitor visa if:
-You will be in the UK for more than 6 months
-You plan to work or pursue an internship in the UK during your stay
-You might extend your stay beyond 6 months
**IF YOU FIT ALL OF THE CRITERIA ABOVE FOR THE STUDENT VISITOR VISA, YOU WILL RECEIVE THIS STUDENT VISITOR VISA ONCE YOU ARRIVE IN THE U.K. AFTER SHOWING YOUR IMMIGRATION LETTER AND ROUNDTRIP TICKET.**
TIER 4 (General) STUDENT VISA (requires prior entry clearance)-
Tier 4 (General) Student Visas are issued PRIOR to entry in the UK while you are still in the US, and allow students to study for more than 6 months. Students will ALSO be required to apply for a Tier 4 (General) Student Visa if:
-Your length of stay in the UK is 6 months or more
-You will be participating in an internship in the UK
-You will be participating in paid employment in the UK
As of December 3, 2007 students will be required to submit 'biometric' information as part of their visa application process. The required biometric information consists of digital scans of all 10 fingers and a full-face digital photograph. Applicants will be required to submit biometric information at visa application support centers located across the United States. While the actual process will take no more than five minutes to complete, students will need to plan accordingly for appointments and travel to the visa application support centers.
