Classes taken at the School of Biomedical Sciences include modules specifically designed for pre-Med students including a Clinical Skills* module and Clinical Cases in Neuroscience*. The latter is taught jointly with Newcastle's full time medical students. Also of particular interest to pre-Med students is the Human Anatomy* module. *Please note: these modules are only open to students coming for the full academic year. In the Clinical Skills Module students will be introduced to basic clinical skills and receive hands on training in areas such as : blood pressure, ECG (electroncardiography), urinalysis, etc. Besides the academic part, it is the Practical components that will open students to new experiences and distinguish you from other Med School Applicants: be it shadowing doctors or volunteering. Students will also be offered the opportunity to experience health care in a UK setting through a one-week placement shadowing consultant medical staff at one of Newcastle's local teaching hospitals. Students may also choose to study other modules offered in the University, including physics modules specifically designed for American students preparing for the MCAT. Pre-dental students can also be accommodated on this programme and undertake a placement shadowing a dental surgeon in Newcastle Dental School.
