The Pre-Medical Studies program is designed specifically for US students who are planning on applying to Medical School.

Classes taken at the School of Biomedical Sciences include modules specifically designed for pre-Med students including a Clinical Skills* module and Clinical Cases in Neuroscience*. The latter is taught jointly with Newcastle's full time medical students. Also of particular interest to pre-Med students is the Human Anatomy* module.

In the Clinical Skills Module students will be introduced to basic clinical skills and receive hands on training in areas such as : blood pressure, ECG (electroncardiography), urinalysis, etc.

Besides the academic part, it is the Practical components that will open students to new experiences and distinguish you from other Med School Applicants: be it shadowing doctors or volunteering. Students will also be offered the opportunity to experience health care in a UK setting through a one-week placement shadowing consultant medical staff at one of Newcastle's local teaching hospitals.

Students may also choose to study other modules offered in the University, including physics modules specifically designed for American students preparing for the MCAT. Pre-dental students can also be accommodated on this programme and undertake a placement shadowing a dental surgeon in Newcastle Dental School.

Minimum GPA

Students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.30.

Minimum Admissions Prerequisites

All applicants are required to submit an academic letter of recommendation, personal statement and color copy of their passport photo pages to supplement their application.

Students must have at least sophomore standing (second-year) status at their home university

Students will be required to obtain a British Tier 4 Visa in order to participate in a full academic year program.
