During the year program, students are allowed to choose from a wide variety of courses offered in the arts, social sciences, and natural sciences. Although classes vary in size and academic focus, all courses are taught at the University of Reading by local university professors. Participants are in the classroom with local students and other international students.

Although University of Reading's academic year consists of three trimesters, students may participate in the fall program or the fall and winter (back-to-back) trimesters.
