Fine Arts and French Language Summer Program

This is a unique five-week opportunity to discover Paris through the arts and language. The program is a perfect match for one who seeks a study abroad experience with art courses taught in English. French language courses are also available.

While French courses take place in the classrooms at the Catholic University of Paris, art courses step out into the city, as professors lead students through museums and monuments of interest, relating foundations of art to the students' own work.

Fine Arts courses, with the exception of "Painting in Plein Air," do not have any prerequisites and are open to all students. Students wishing to take the course "Painting in Plein Air" must have completed a college-level drawing course or the equivalent of. French courses are available from beginning through advanced levels.

Students may follow one of three tracts:

Option A: Students focus solely on art by taking two art classes, 45 contact hours each.

Option B: Students combine one fine arts course of 45 contact hours and one French course of 60 contact hours.

Option C: Students focus solely on a French Language course of 90 contact hours.

Art classes, designed specifically for the Fine Arts program, are taken with other students participating in the program. French classes are taken with other international students.

The Catholic University of Paris transcribes all courses on this program.

Eligibility

Minimum GPA

Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50.

Minimum Admissions Prerequisites

For beginning, intermediate, high intermediate, advanced, and superior level French speakers. Art courses are open to all students, with the exception of "Painting in Plein Air." Students wishing to take the course "Painting in Plein Air" must have completed a college-level drawing course or the equivalent of.

Students must have a 2.5 GPA and be at least 18 years of age. Students participating in the French courses may be required to take a placement exam upon arrival in Paris. The exam will indicate
each student's language proficiency level, and will determine the course in which the student is eligible to enroll.

Please use the following only as a guideline to determine what each student's language level may be. Each semester/quarter is of COLLEGE-LEVEL French or the equivalent of:

0-3 Semesters/0-5 Quarters = Beginning level
4-5 Semesters/6-8 Quarters = Intermediate
6-7 Semesters/9-11 Quarters = High Intermediate
8-9 Semesters/12-14 Quarters = Advanced
Fluent/Native Speaker = Superior
