**Language by Art and Art by Language**
Objectives:
1. To practice the French language by describing an object of art, at a museum or in class.
2. To learn how to view, analyze, and understand a work of art: composition, pictoral or sculptural techniques.
3. To identify and read about the necessary subjects in order to understand the era in which the work of art was conceived.
4. To acquire the necessary language base to be able to describe and comment on a work of art (vocabulary, tools of analysis, historic points of reference, style).
5. To be familiar with the great French masterpieces and French artists.
Program: This course is organized in 2 parts
1. Pictorial genres and major themes of art
2. Chronological journey through the history of art in France: artists and their major masterpieces
Grading: 3 grades: 2 exams/projects and 1 participation grade
