Prerequisites and Language Level

Note: A placement exam will be required when you arrive on site.

Intermediate
This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of two semesters (or three quarters) of college-level French. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.

Overview

Objectives:
-Discover the biggest religious holidays in France (All Saints Day, Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, Assumption)
-Learn the vocabulary used in the religious system in France
-Familiarize oneself with this vocabulary
-Discover the religious iconography
-Reflect on the place of catholocism in today's France
-Reflect on the place of other religions practiced in France (protestant, orthodox, muslim, jewish, buddist)
-The place of laypersons in France

Program:
-This course consists of seven objectives, touching on works of art, adapted texts, meetings with various parishes, and church visits (optional).

Grading is based on 3 grades:
-2 exams
-1 participation grade
