Note: A placement exam will be required when you arrive on site.

Intermediate
This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of two semesters (or three quarters) of college-level French. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.

Overview

Objectives:

- Examine the current economic setting and its related issues
- Acquire the tools necessary for interpreting economic documents (tables, graphs, etc.)

Program:

OVERVIEW OF THE FRENCH ECONOMY
- key figures (growth rates, sum of the trade balance)
- changes in the productive sector (the possibility of deindustrialization)
- the State’s role (public services in the face of liberalization of certain sectors)
- globalization (trump cards of the French multinational companies)

EUROPEAN CONTACT
- different stages of construction of the European Union
- current debates (must the pact of stability be respected?)
