Intermediate
This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of two semesters (or three quarters) of college-level French. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.

Overview

Objectives:
1. Discover the artistic richness of Paris in its historical dimension across certain monuments, paintings and sculptures of all epochs.
2. Understand the urban ensembles, Parisian buildings, and works of art by putting them in Parisian and French history and in political, religious and socio-cultural context of their time.

Program:
From antiquity to the end of the 19th Century, across certain prestigious monuments and works of art from all eras, we will chronologically cover the main stages in the history of Paris. We will also learn about significant events, people, and artists who made history in France. In addition, we will learn about the artists that painted for their contemporaries, and their works of art, paintings and sculptures.

Evaluation: 3 grades based on:

-1 final exam
-1 cumulative grade on homework, participation and work ethic
