This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of 2 upper-division college-level French courses. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.

Overview

This course includes a practical study of the French language. The course covers fundamentals and is designed to equip students with the tools for everyday use of French.
The course aims to give the basic and necessary language competency in tackling a range in the following elements:

- Pronouns
-Mastering verbs and their use
-Passive voice, active and pronominal, the agreement of time…
-Interrogative and negative phrases
-Direct and indirect discourse
-Study of short texts found in French or Francophone literature
-Oral and written expression: summarizing essays, listening exercises and presentations
-For the literature option: study of a complete work
-For the economy option: business French (from the CCIP diploma)
-Phonetics*

*20 hours of instruction for this course take place in a phonetics lab
