Overview

An introduction to the Italian language in the context of Italian culture. This course is designed to develop students’ ability to communicate in Italian in simple everyday situations and to enable them to understand Italian in predictable contexts, on familiar topics as spoken by native speakers. Basic grammar structures are reinforced through the analysis and use of sentences in their real context. It includes the use and practice of present tense of regular and irregular verbs, adjectives, nouns and articles, direct pronouns, prepositions and past tense. Practice will take place in all four basic skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

According to The Council of Europe on The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages, students in this class should acquire the following skills:

1- Understand and use daily expressions
2- Read and understand simple sentences
3- Ask and answer familiar questions in areas of immediate need or on familiar topics
4- Write short and simple compositions
