Prior to enrolling in courses at this language level, students must have completed or tested out of a minimum of three semesters (or five quarters) of college-level Italian at their home university in the U.S.
Completion of three semesters of college-level Italian: ITAL 25201 (Intermediate Italian I) or equivalent.
Overview
This course is designed for students who have a good knowledge of Italian language. The use of complex grammar rules is applied to the production of all four basic skills: reading, speaking, understanding and writing. The use of present, imperfect and past subjunctive will allow students to express personal opinions, wishes, hopes, doubts. It includes the use of the hypotetic period, passive forms, direct and indirect speech, comparative forms, gerund, infinitive and past infinitive, relative pronouns.
According to The Council of Europe on The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages, students in this class should acquire the following skills:
- Understand extended speeches even when relationships are only implied and not signaled explicitly
- Understand movies and T.V. programmes without too much effort
- Express oneself fluently and spontaneously
- Write clear, detailed texts on a wide range of subjects.
