Prior to enrolling in courses at this language level, students must have completed or tested out of a minimum of two semesters (or three quarters) of college-level Italian at their home university in the U.S.
Completion of two semesters of college-level Italian: 15202 (Elementary Italian II) or equivalent.
Overview
This course is designed for students who have a good knowledge of basic grammar and communication skills. The use of complex rules is applied to conversation and writing skills. Through the use of more complex rules, students acquire fluency and self-confidence in the use of the four basic skills: reading, writing listening and speaking. It includes the use and practice of: sequences in the past tenses, the use of present and past imperfect, the historic past, future and conditional tenses, irregular nouns and adjectives, pronouns.
According to The Council of Europe on The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages, students in this class should acquire the following skills:
- To understand extended speeches and lectures on reasonably familiar topics
- To read articles and reports on contemporary problems
- To interact with native speakers
- To produce clear texts and express opinions
