Prior to enrolling in courses at this language level, students must have completed or tested out of a minimum of five semesters (or seven quarters) of college-level Italian at their home university in the U.S.
Completion of five semesters of college-level Italian: ITAL 35211 (Italian Composition and Conversation I) or equivalent.

Overview

This course is designed for students who have mastered the grammatical structure of the language and are ready to expand and increase their language skills. A particular emphasis will be put on oral and written production. The intent of this course is to manage any kind of spoken language and to read with ease almost all forms of written language, to take part in a wide variety of conversations and discussions and to write clear and fluent texts in an appropriate style. Students will develop an awareness of Italian culture and society through the use of language. A selection of newspaper articles, literary texts (i.e. short stories, poems, and songs), movies and advertisements will be analyzed during the course in order to understand the structure of and the changes in Italian society and language.
