Overview

This class will examine the purposes of theater and such questions as: Who makes theater? For whom? Under what circumstances? To achieve what aims? The essential elements of theater will be discussed: space, time, imitation/play, rhythm, actions, words, actors, and audience. Theater will be considered as the art of four dimensions. It will look at theater spaces, past and present.

There will be required viewings of professional productions in Florence. Reservation arrangements will be made by the professor.
