How do I get around?

Walking
The best way to get around in Guanajuato is walking since the city is quite small. Of course there are plenty of buses to get you to your destination if it is further away.

Buses
Buses go virtually anywhere they are physically capable of going and vary in quality. City buses usually cost two to three pesos. The Guanajuato bus station is located outside of the city. You can take a city bus there for three pesos. The bus you need to take is marked “Central Camionera” or “Central de Autobuses”.

Taxis
If you’re in a hurry or have a lot of luggage, take a taxi but always agree on a price first (20 to 25 pesos). Upon arriving at the airport in León, if you are not going with the group and are not being picked up by the resident director, you should take a taxi to Guanajuato. Taxis in Guanajuato are painted green and white. There are usually very easy to find. To travel to most places throughout the city, it will cost between 20 and 25 pesos. Before you get into the car, you should tell the driver where you want to go to make sure they know how to get there.

It may be more expensive than you think to travel by taxi on a daily basis. Most foreign countries have excellent public transportation. If traveling by day and you’re not in a hurry, it is definitely worth it to walk or take the bus. When hiring a taxi, request in advance the fare to be paid for your destination. Don’t be alarmed if you don’t see a meter, taxis in Mexico usually don’t have them.

If necessary, you can arrange to have a cab pick you up at your house for an extra cost. Most excursions will have a planned meeting place in Guanajuato and will not leave from the bus station. You are responsible for your own transportation to the meeting place when participating on ISA excursions.
