Overview

The goal of this class is to give the students the knowledge and comprehension of the formation of European Medieval Literature with special emphasis on Spanish Literature. The themes that will be looked at in this class will revolve around the characteristics of Medieval Literature such as honor, heroism, and chivalry. Symbolic and religious aspects of the literature along with historical and Picaresque stories will be touched upon. Other aspects to be looked at will be: The European languages and their literary expression during the fall of the Roman Empire, the literary genres and their development during the Medieval period, and musicianship and themes of ancient Spanish poetry.
