Overview

The focus of this class is to give an understanding of the formation of the European Realism and Romantic Literature, with special emphasis in Spanish Literature. This course will specifically look at the Romantic movements and Realist literature. Some of the themes to be discussed relating to the Romantic period are: dreams and reality of the Romantic world, origins of Romanticism in Germany and its adaptation to French, Spanish Romanticism. With relation to Realist literature, the following themes will be discussed: Realist literature in France and Spain, ideological foundations and the aesthetics of Realism.
