Prior to enrolling in courses at this language level, students must have completed or tested out of a minimum of four semesters (or six quarters) of college-level Spanish at their home university in the U.S.
Overview
At the end of this course, students will be able to identify, analyze, and locate in their socio-cultural context, Mexican and Latin American texts of the 19th Century. Several themes to be discussed in this class are the following: the emancipation of America; the insurgent period; Fernandez de Lizardi and the new American narrative; Romanticism in America; Classical, Romantic, Realist, Naturalist, and Romantic poetry; theater in the 19th Century; French and Modernist symbolism.
