Overview

BEGINNING READING COMPREHENSION

This lecture course has been prepared especially for students in beginning level Spanish. The program’s perspective is completely phonetic, for this reason there is a focus on elements such as articulation of sounds, syllabification, etc. This way, the student will acquire a greater conscience and dominion of the 24 phonemes of Spanish through a sequence of exercises and lectures.

There will be comparison activities throughout the course between Spanish and English sounds, in efforts to avoid confusion from the student. In this sense, the first step will be to understand the mechanics of sound production, phonetic articulation and geographic variations. All of this, under a practical perspective, will lead the student to fluent Spanish pronunciation.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE:

That the student may read in Spanish with an adequate pronunciation.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

That the student improves his/her diction
That the student improves his/her level of comprehension
That the student expands his/her vocabulary

METHODOLOGY:

• Use of phonology in its structural perspective
• Focus on the use of some elements of the generative phonology, particularly through the analysis of distinctive traits of Spanish and segmental phonology.
