Overview

Irreconcilable Differences? The Representation of Geopolitical Conflict in Western and Arab News Media

This course provides an introduction to mass media while following the historical evolution from limited access to globalization. The history of Arab journalism will outline the reporting styles and legislation of the Arab press, in addition to ideology, current politics and culture of the Arab world. Sections of this course will address the region’s diversity in terms of media presentation, i.e. public vs. private; traditional vs. non-traditional; women in the media and the media impact on women. This course will encompass global media perceptions and perspectives on terrorism and the Palestinian-Israeli War.
