BarcelonaCulture Corner![]() ISA office, UB, UPF, UIMP, and housing neighborhoodsThe ISA office is conveniently located in the center of Barcelona in a historic building near the University of Barcelona (UB), University and Menédez Pelayo International (UIMP) and one campus of the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). The neighborhoods of Barcelona are distinct in style and unique in flavor. The UB, UPF and UIMP are all located in the district of Ciutat Vella which means the “Old City” in Catalan. Ciutat Vella is the heart of Barcelona and houses the oldest neighborhoods in the city. The famous tree-lined boulevard, Las Ramblas, is a 1.2 kilometer pedestrian walkway that runs down the center of Ciutat Vella and connects the Plaza Cataluña, with Port Vell. Each homestay has been carefully selected and all families are centrally located within 30 minutes or less, via public transportation to the three universities. Most families live in the modern district surrounding Ciutat Vella. The ISA furnished apartments are located in the neighborhood of Poble Sec which is situated on one side of Montjuic Mountain. The name Poble Sec means “Dry Town” in Catalan and comes from the lack of fountains, and thus water, in the area during the 19th century. The newly constructed apartments respond to international students’ current needs and lifestyle. They are within walking distance of some of the best views of Barcelona, the Olympic Stadium and the National Palace. Students also have the option of securing their housing independently, and one option includes residencias (residential halls) located in the district of Barceloneta, just 5 minutes away from the beach and the Olympic Village, and the Eixample, known for its modern architecture.
