This program accommodates students of various levels of Spanish proficiency who would like to take Spanish language in addition to a variety of elective courses. All students will enroll in a 90-hour Spanish language course and then choose two or three additional electives within their language level. Please note that students who place into the superior language level are not required to take a language class and may select up to five courses, but no less than four, within the superior language level. All language courses are taken at the Pompeu Fabra University with American and other international students. The culture courses may have some Spanish students and international students. Students will also be allowed to take courses with Spaniards on a limited basis, including courses taught in English.

All students must take a Spanish language placement exam upon arrival in Barcelona. The exam will indicate each student's language proficiency level, and will determine the courses in which the student is eligible to enroll. Students who arrive in Spain having completed one semester of college-level Spanish or the equivalent will likely place into the high beginning level courses. Students who arrive in Spain having completed one full year of college-level Spanish will likely place into the intermediate level courses. Students who arrive in Spain having completed two years of college-level Spanish will likely place into the advanced level courses. Students who arrive in Spain having completed three years of college-level Spanish will likely place into the superior level courses.

This program is for Spanish students who would like to take a grammar and conversation course as well as a variety of Hispanic Studies culture classes. Students will take the required Spanish Grammar and an additional 90-112.5 hours of instruction of culture courses. All classes are taken at the University of Barcelona with American and other international students.

Students at any language level will be eligible to take courses at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). The UAB offers a wide variety of economics and business courses as well as courses in culture, art and history. Courses are taught in Spanish and English at the Sant Pau campus, located in the city center, not far from the Sagrada Familia. Courses are also taught at the Eixample campus, less than a 10 minute commute from the ISA office.
