This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of two semesters (or three quarters) of college-level Spanish. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.

Objective
The objective of this course is to critically comment on the films shown in class and through the films, deepen the students knowledge of conversational Spanish (formal and informal registry, dialectical varieties, etc.). Other objectives of the class are to analyze how Spanish social reality is reflected in the films and to analyze how Spanish cinema gives an answer to the social demand of each moment.
Program
In this course movies and fragments of films best representing Spanish film from its origins up to the present will be shown. Analyzed will be the productions from recognized artists such as Buñuel, Bardem, García Berlanga, Saura, etc., and special attention will be paid to a few productions of the most significant directors of the last decades (Almodóvar, Trueba, Amenábar, Medem, Miró, and others).
