FALL STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Objectives:

Present and overview of the narrative prose from the XX century. Analyzing novels and brief stories of the epoch that is studied.

Program:

Overview and outline of the narrative prose from 1939 to 1975.
The novel and the brief narrative: La familia de Pascual Duarte (1942) by Camilo José Cela, Cabeza rapada (1958) by Jesús Fernández Santos and Retahílas (1974) by Carmen Martín Gaite.
Overview and outline of the narrative prose from 1975 to present day.
The novel and the brief narrative: Luna de lobos (1985) by Julio Llamazares, Historia de detectives (1987) by Juan Marsé and En ausencia de Blanca (1999) by Antonio Muñoz Molina.
Overview and outline of the narrative prose from 1900 to the Civil War (1936-1939).
The narrative of modernism and of 98: Miguel de Unamuno, Ramón del Valle-Inclán and Pío Baroja. Sonata de otoño (1992) by Ramón del Valle-Inclán and San Manuel Bueno, mártir (1931) by Miguel Unamuno.

WINTER STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Objective:

To present an overview of the spanish narrative of the Golden Century, the short stories, and the novel of the second half of the XIX century. For this, the students will analyze novels and short stories of the period studied.

Overview and outline of the short stories and the novels from 1850-1900.
The short story: La corza blanca (1863) by Gustavo Aldolfo Bécquer and Doña Berta (1892) by Leopoldo Alas “Clarín”
Juan Valera and Pepita Jiménez (1874)
The novels of Benito Pérez Galdós.
Leopoldo Alas “Clarín” and La Regenta (1884-1885).
Overview and outline of the narrative prose of the Golden Century (XVI-XVII)
The Cervantes novel and El Quijote (1605-1615)
