FALL STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Objective
A study of Spanish poetry from the 19th and 20th centuries, the romanticism and modernism from the readings, and analysis and commentary of poems from the most prestigious authors. Aside from the presentation of the characteristics of the poetry overview, special attention will be placed on the comprehension of the texts, the analysis of the theme, poetical appeal as it relates to the significance of the journey of the author.

Lecture and commentary of lesser known poems by José de Espronceda.
Lecture and commentary of the Rimas by Bécquer.
Overview of modern poetry. Symbolism and Parnassianism. Most prestigious authors.
Poetic contributions of Rubén Darío.
The poetic trajectory of Antonio Machado from Soledades to Campos de Castilla.
Lecture and analysis of the works of Juan Ramón Jiménez: From modernism to the nude poetry.

A study of Spanish poetry from the XX century through reading, the analysis and commentary of a poem from each of the most prestigious authors of the period. Modernism, from the 27 generation, and poems from the medium of the century. Special attention will be placed on the comprehension of the texts, analysis of its theme, and its poetic appeal that gives the significance to the trajectory of the author.

Lecture and Commentary of the poems by Federico García Lorca (Canciones, Romancero Gitano, Poeta en Nueva York) and Rafael Alberti (Marinero en tierra).
Lecture and commentary of the works of other prestigious poets of the XX century: Blas de Otero (Ancia) and José Hierro (Antología poética)
