Advanced
This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of four semesters (or six quarters) of college-level Spanish. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.
Superior
This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of 2 upper-division college-level Spanish courses. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.

Overview

Evaluation:
The subject will be evaluated by class participation, monitoring of weekly exercises, and a final control exercise

Objective:
The objective of this language introduction and Catalan culture course, with a clear communicative focus, is the achievement of the students’ linguistic and sociocultural competence that will allow them communicate in the Catalan society

Methodology:
The program will be divided in thematic blocks of general interest. Each of these thematic blocks will integrate the following aspects:
a. Communicative
b. Sociocultural
c. Lexical
d. Grammatical

Attendance is mandatory. Students will attend classes and dedicate a few weekly hours (informed at the proper time) to work with the course material.

Contents will be introduced in class; comprehension and oral expression will be worked with direct feedback, and the course will make the most of cooperative learning.

There will be two cultural field trips directly related to the issues seen in class:
-Visit to a pastry workshop (candy and Holy Week related products)
-Visit to a public market (La Boquería)

Evaluation:
The course will be evaluated through class participation, completion of weekly exercises, and a final control exercise.
