The Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) was founded by Spain's Ministry of Education in 1932 under the name of Universidad de Santander. In 1945 it acquired its present title. An autonomous institution that reports to Spain's Ministry of Education and Culture, the UIMP continues to have its central campus in the city of Santander, where it originated. However, the UIMP has increased its presence and reputation in Spain by offering numerous post-graduate seminars in various fields, and courses in Spanish as a Second Language at various satellite campuses throughout Spain. The UIMP is an internationally accredited university that is renowned for working with international students. The Spanish Language and Culture courses are an essential part of the University's curriculum.
