The Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) is one of the newest public universities in Spain. The UPF was founded in 1990 as an act of the Catalan Parliament and currently has 8,162 students enrolled in fields ranging from experimental, health and life sciences to human and social sciences and technical studies and a total of 10,223, which includes students at schools accredited with the university, such as the ESCI. Inspired by the principles of freedom, democracy, justice, equality, independence and plurality, the UPF is the most innovative and modern academic institution in the city. The University prides itself in introducing new learning methods and technology to the traditional values and standards of teaching. Located in the heart of the city, the UPF facilities are housed in renovated historical buildings spreading from Las Ramblas to the Olympic Village in the district of El Poblenou. UPF students will have access to computer labs, sports facilities, and the university's fully computerized library which houses 500,000 volumes and is connected to all the catalogues of Catalonia's public university libraries.
