This course consists of 40 hours of instruction. However, students may earn 45 hours by attending supplemental sessions and completing additional coursework. Please check with your home university to find out whether you need 40 or 45 hours to earn course equivalents.

Note: A placement exam will be required when you arrive on site.
High Advanced
This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of five semesters (or seven quarters) of college-level Spanish. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.

This class evaluates the geographic reality of Spain, its originality, relief, climate, population, etc.

2. The relief of the land as a determinant factor of the Spanish landscape.
3. The climate of Spain.
4. The Spanish vegetal landscape.
5. Spain intersected with towns and the evolution of the Spanish population.
6. The Spanish population and its modern distribution. Migratory movements.
7. Country habit and rural living.
8. The origin and evolution of the cities. Urban functions.
9. The Spanish economy and its evolution.
10. The physical medium and the historical factors in relation to agricultural activities.
11. Agriculture and ranching in wet Spain.
12. Agriculture and ranching in dry Spain.
13. Spanish industry : historic evolution and characteristics.
14. Sources of energy and industrial raw materials.
15. Spanish regional industries.
16. Interior Spanish communications.
17. Problems with the Spanish Balance of Payments.
18. Spanish foreign commerce.
19. Tourism : characteristics and problems.
20. Spanish tourist regions.
III. Evaluation
Depending on the development of the class, the professor of the course will propose the exams and the evaluations appropriate to the capabilities of the student. There will at least be a mid-term and final exam.
