Option B: Spanish Language and Culture - University of Granada

This program offers courses at the intermediate, advanced, and superior levels. All students will take a required Spanish language course, and then will choose either a Hispanic Culture and Civilization course or two electives. Students may enroll in overlapping summer sessions.

Minimum GPA

Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50.

Minimum Admissions Prerequisites

For intermediate, advanced, and superior level Spanish speakers. All students must take a Spanish language placement exam upon arrival in Granada. The exam will indicate each student’s language proficiency level, and will determine the courses in which the student is eligible to enroll. Students who arrive in Spain having completed one full year of college-level Spanish will likely place into intermediate level courses. Students who arrive in Spain having completed two years of college-level Spanish will likely place into advanced level courses. Student who arrive in Spain having completed three years of college-level Spanish will likely place into superior level courses. Students who place into the beginning level will be asked to switch to the Intensive Spanish Language Summer Program.

Please note that there are no beginning level Spanish courses offered in this program.

Level is determined by a placement test administered by the University of Granada.

Availability of elective courses is based on enrollment numbers. All students should seek pre-approval for alternate courses in the event of last-minute class cancellations.

All students will take a required Spanish language course (45-50 hours), and then will choose either a Hispanic Culture and Civilization course or two electives. Students that choose to take the Hispanic Culture and Civilization course will take 45 hours of Spanish Language. Students that choose to take the Elective courses will take 50 hours of Spanish Language.
