Overview

FIRST SEMESTER [FALL]

1. Prehistoric Art. Ancient times. Roman Spain.

2. Periods and examples of Hispano-Muslim art.

3. Christian art: Pre-roman churches. Roman art and the Camino de Santiago. From the Roman monastery to the Gothic cathedral. Characteristics and periods of the Gothic style.

4. The age of Phillip II. El Escorial. Painting during this period and El Greco.

5. The painters of the 17th Century (I): Velasquez.

6. The painters of the 17th Century (II): Ribalta, Ribera, Zurbaran, Murillo.

SECOND SEMESTER [WINTER]

7. The 18th Century. Art in the Bourbon courts. The royal sites.

8. Goya: his epoch, art, and message.

9. Art in the 19th Century.

10. Modernism: Gaudi. The painters of the Generation of '98.

11. Picasso and cubism. The painters of the "return to order."

12. Dali and surrealism. The work of Miro.

13. Post-war Spanish art.

14. The most recent tendencies of Spanish art.
