High Intermediate
This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of three semesters (or five quarters) of college-level Spanish. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.

I Orthography
review of orthographic rules

II Review of ser-estar
ser and estar + adjectives; locative constructions with ser and estar; ser as an “event” verb; ser and estar + prepositions

III Indicative tense
differences between the imperfect, the indefinite, and the past perfect; “aunque” + indicative

IV Prepositions

V Subjunctive tense
imperative and subjunctive; the lexically ruled subjunctive; negation and the subjunctive; the subjunctive and concordance of time; the subjunctive in independent sentences; declarative sentences; conditional sentences; “aunque” + subjunctive

VI Gender
reading with a dictionary; adaptation of words in distinct contexts; synonyms, homonyms, and antonyms

EXERCISES

1. with respect to orthography, the exercises will employ basic dictation skills

2. with respect to verbs and verb tenses, students will work on exercises that include dicontextualized sentences with blanks to fill in, texts with the verb in infinitive form, and texts with errors
