High Intermediate
This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of three semesters (or five quarters) of college-level Spanish. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.
Advanced
This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of four semesters (or six quarters) of college-level Spanish. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.
Superior
This course is designed for students who have completed or tested out of a minimum of 2 upper-division college-level Spanish courses. However, students must take a placement exam to determine the course level into which they will be able to enroll.

-Concept of folklore. Generalities. Characteristics. Music researchers and their importance in the study of folklore.
-Vocal music in folklore. Importance of romance. Sefardíes songs. Most common structures of song. Popular song in various voices.
-Classification of song by the themes: play, love, lullaby, serenades. Characteristics of each type.
-Folkloric dance. The most important dances. Their musical accompaniment.
-The flamenco song. Origins. Classifications, themes, the language and the singers.
-Folklore in the cultured music of the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century.
-Influence of Spanish folklore in Latin America.
-Musical life in Spain after the Renaissance. Music chapels: their composition. The maestros of the chapel: their duties and importance.
-Profane vocal music. The singers of the Colombina.
-The figure of Juan del Enzina. Christmas carol.
