Overview

This course concentrates on international architecture in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Topics that will be covered include: Historicism and Eclecticism, Architecture and Engineering, Urbanism: Socialist Utopias and Bougeoisie Rationalism, the Chicago School, Architecture of Art Nouveau, Architecture and the Vanguard, Rationalism and Utopia: De Stijl, la Bauhaus, Le Corbusier, Organic Architecture, Modern Movement 1945-1970, Architectonic debate in the seventies and eighties: the end of hegemony, Postmodernism, Deconstruction, and High Tech.
