Overview

The principal objective of this course is an investigation of the belief system, art, law, moral and customs in medieval society. A secondary objective is the development of research skills that will aid students in studying the middle ages. Contents of the course include: historical periods and elements of the middle ages, the world vision of the medieval man and his religious beliefs, social classes and expressions of culture: the clergy, the medieval university, and its students, social classes and cultural expressions: cavalry and popular culture, literary life, love and the feminine condition in the medieval world.
