EVALUATION
1. There will be a final written exam about theory and practice topics covered in class.
2. All students in this course will audit a Spanish Language class taught by the professors of the Department of Spanish Language at the University of Salamanca. The dates for the audits will be announced sometime during the first days of class, along with the rooms and time they will have to assist. The results of this observation will be compiled into a report and submitted on an announced date.
3. Complementary Practices: There will be a series of articles along with a guide with activities that will be used. Summaries, conversations, and corrections of these practice activities will take place in class. Active participation from these activities will be 25% of the student’s final grade.
4. Optional work: may serve as extra credit towards the final exam grade. This optional work consists of:
a) Selecting a topic about teaching Spanish as a second language: this may be about a grammatical rule, a notion, a function, etc
b) A comparative analysis of manuals (at least 3) about teaching Spanish as a second language: how they deal with the selected topic, whether it’s part of an individual lesson or part of a whole, how they deal with the topic from a grammatical point of view, etc.
c) Classify the manuals from a methodological stance. Photocopies of resources that exemplify the comparison between the manuals will be allowed.
d) Methodological criticism: Pros and cons about each manual with regards to the presentation and how they choose to deal with the selected topic.
*This assignment must be turned in the last week of class. NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
