Prior to enrolling in courses at this language level, students must have completed or tested out of a minimum of 2 upper-division college-level Spanish courses at their home university in the U.S.

Overview

The main objective of this course is to strengthen the students' knowledge of biogeography with a concentration in the Mediterranean. Classes will alternate between global considerations of biogeography and specific considerations of the Mediterranean with field trips to identify specific vegetation. Topics to be covered in the course include: environmental characteristics specific to the Mediterranean and its spatial distribution to the world, the bioclimatology of the Mediterranean and the adaptation of species and ecosystems to the climate, ecological characteristics of specific vegetal species of the Mediterranean, vegetal climatic formations and its distributions.
