Prior to enrolling in courses at this language level, students must have completed or tested out of a minimum of 2 upper-division college-level Spanish courses at their home university in the U.S.

OBJECTIVES
To offer the student a grand overview of the most relevant processes of Spanish History, paying special attention to the political, social, and cultural aspects.
PROGRAM
Topic 1: The limits of illustrated reformism and the crisis of the old regime.
Topic 2: The construction of the Liberal State and the Spanish model of development.
Topic 3: The Six-Year Revolution and the social impact of its transformations.
Topic 4: Continuities and Changes of the Republic restoration.
Topic 5: The Eleventh Republic and the Civil War: transformations and confrontations.
Topic 6: Franco's regime: autarchy to development.
Topic 7: The democratic transition: social bases and political instruments.
Topic 8: 19th Century Spain.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
The student will receive corresponding credit for this subject upon completion of work based on a book chosen by the student. The professor will hand out a list to choose from at the beginning of the semester.
